ARMA Board: Constitution/Bylaws
Dear Member,
Pursuant to Bylaw Article XI (“Amendment”) of the ARMA International Edmonton Chapter bylaws (available at www.armaedmonton.com), members are hereby given 30 days notice of a proposed amendment to Chapter Bylaw Article VI (“Board of Directors”) Section 3 (“Duties and Responsibilities”).
The proposed amendment would add the following text as Article VI, Section 3 (F):
“Director of Student Services” responsible for:
· Liaison between all l RIM education programs and institutions, managers and administrators including multi-disciplinary programs related to RIM including but not limited to: privacy, knowledge management, managing digital information, content management, Web content, IAPP administration, library administration, and imaging
· Create and administer a practicum registry and assist in the placement of practicum students for the local RIM community
· Assist the Program and Learning Director in including student participation in various Chapter events
· Propose and administer all scholarships or other student prizes on an equitable basis
· Represent the Chapter at all speaking engagements requested by RIM education institutions or designate a delegate
· Receive and respond to all student or administrator requests for information, support, or contributions (in cash or kind) to RIM educational programs
· Devise and execute recruitment plans to encourage the induction of graduates into full ARMA membership
· Other duties as assigned
In sum, the Board is proposing to add an additional leadership position to the existing Board of Directors responsible for the itemized list of duties above.
The Rationale:
Edmonton’s three major post-secondary institutions have recently partnered with the Edmonton Chapter to improve, update, revitalize and otherwise advance the level of RIM education in Edmonton. NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) has announced the RMBO program (Records Management and Business Operations), Grant MacEwan College has added RIM programming to its Library Technicians program, and the University of Alberta School of Library and Information Studies has committed to a complete revision of its RIM course LIS 594. These advances represent serious commitments on the part of these institutions.
This amendment is in response to the increased dialogue and participation the Board has been engaged in with respect to these institutions. The Chapter must respond by providing a direct link between the Board and the student programs. We believe that we must meaningfully partner with the educational institutions in order to a) ensure ARMA competencies and other priorities remain at the forefront of educational programming; b) encourage students to participate in ARMA and thereby ensure increased full membership upon graduation and employment; c) grow the Chapter in light of impending retirements; d) promote RIM as a viable, dynamic , and desirable career path; and e) establish ARMA as the undisputed leader in RIM professional practice support in Edmonton.
Your ARMA Edmonton Board welcomes all comments, questions, and suggestions. Please forward your input by email to president@armaedmonton.com by 13 January 2009.
Best thanks and wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
ARMA Edmonton Board of Directors
